Staff Picks? Staff Picks.
About Staff Picks
Live performances are inherently ephemeral, but some shows are more fleeting than others. Staff Picks aims to spotlight New York (and surrounding areas') works at smaller houses with shorter runs so that more people can experience them. This effort prioritizes the unconventional but nifty, though a range of shows, venues, and styles will be represented on this site to uplift our entire artistic environment. Offering a curated guide of theater, dance, music, performance, multimedia, and other (live!) pieces, Staff Picks helps you map out your cultural diet through mini reviews, features, and video content to uplift the scrappy and diversify the arts criticism landscape. Staff Picks is made by and for artists and audiences, nourishing the roots of our ecosystem so more new works get seen and supported. Trickle up, honey!
The Staff
What are we the staff of? All sorts of places! And not one place. We’re just…staff.
Staff Picks is:
Travis Amiel, the one who seeks fake blood, florescent lights, jolty dance, and loud rock music.
Matthew Antoci, the one who ordered the seafood platter.
Theresa Buchheister, the one who has a diet coke and a cigarette for lunch.
Rishita Chowdary, the one with the messed up sleep schedule.
Laia Comas, the lesbian photocopying articles from Performance Research on break.
Joshua Dumas, interim manager of the Frequently Weeping In Public At Art department.
Lena Engelstein, the dancer but really just doing stuff with gusto.
Hillary Gao, the one who gets nauseous in ubers.
Billy McEntee, the one who comes to the meeting after a five-mile jog but smells mostly decent.
kanishk pandey, just a lil guy, just a lil dude.
Eric Shethar, the one who got home at 7am this morning.
Marissa Joyce Stamps, Afrosurrealist + future cacao farm owner.
Noa Rui-Piin Weiss, the one who printed Anal Terror by Paul B. Preciado on the office printer.
