PSYCHIC SELF DEFENSE: NORMANDY SHERWOOD
HERE Arts
Thursday, September 21st 2023

There is magic in this show, I've heard. Magic theater moments. And I'm not surprised. I know about this show through Daniel Nelson who is -simply put- a theater wizard. I think he can do literally any single thing that needs to happen in a theater: act, run a light board, stage manage a show from either on or off the stage, rig up a trapdoor, hang lights, source discount bread in the west village...and he is just one of this incredible team directed by HARP recipient Normandy Sherwood. And if you need a little more encouragement, the piece's tagline is giving timely:

Tired of dissociating? Try PSYCHIC SELF DEFENSE!

The Saga of the Shining Emblem: Chapter VIII: The Saga and perhaps YOU
Brick Aux
Wednesday, September 27th 2023

The Saga of The Shining Emblem is a show that I will just keep recommending forever. You cannot stop me. You cannot stop The Saga! It is goofy, but don't let that fool you. There is a lotta substance beneath the silliness.

REST WITHIN THE WAKE: James Allister Sprang, Marin Day
Baryshnikov Arts Center
September 27th - September 30th 2023

I know about this show because my incredible sister/friend Marin Day was the producer for it. She got me into the Monday "dress rehearsal" where I laid on yoga mat, surrounded by strategically placed speakers, in the fourth floor studio at BAC alongside 15 other people and entered the third realm: not awake but not asleep. It's a place I usually get to through acupuncture. It was deeply restful, as the sound-experience is meant to be I think, and it was a strange expression of community, resting near strangers in the middle of a rainy day in midtown. Highly recommend for this strange seasonal transition/never ending tropical storm/official entry into fall.

Salty Brine’s And If You Listen Very Hard: The Led Zeppelin Show: Salty Brine, Nate Weida
Lincoln Center
Thursday, October 12th 2023

Everyone and their extended family knows I am a big ol fan boi of Nate Weida, so when Nate revealed to me that this show happens FOR FREE on MY BIRTHDAY and is covering ZEPPELIN... I died and resurrected and then said, "This is now my birthday plan, thank you."
