Snatch Adams and Tainty McCracken Present It's That Time of the Month!: Becca Blackwell
Soho Rep
October 25th - December 3rd 2023

The show comes with a trigger warning that there will be fluids. The play follows a six-foot vagina. And there are celebrity guests? Check check check.

im a pause im a fiction im a pervert im a dream: Barnett Cohen
Performa
November 3rd - November 5th, 2023

I think if I had to categorize my taste in theatre, one group would for sure be text-based scores- where performers deliver the piece in a variety of formats (monologues, asides, and soliloquies). Bonus points if it's in the round. Which is why when I saw Barnett Cohen's The Complain Society at last year's Exponential Festival, I was instantly like-- I need to see more work by them. So when I was looking at who's performing at Performa (lol), I was super excited to see "im a pause im a fiction im a pervert im a dream" !!

A free party! The wacky Dynasty Handbag! The astounding Karen Black! I am so excited for this. Should be a fun evening of amazing performances, and the website also promises stargazing :)

Faust (The Broken Show): Eric Dyer, Maggie Hoffman, Radiohole
The Brick Theater
November 2nd - November 19th, 2023

I can say with absolute confidence, everyone needs to see this show. I got to watch a rehearsal the other day and it is wild to be reminded how it feels to experience the physical/mental/spiritual/artistic textures, content-packed depth and great gross silliness of a project made by Radioholers. I. Cannot. Wait.

Helen.: Caitlin George, Violeta Picayo
La Mama
Final show: October 29th, 2023

I have a deep love for the alchemy that bends old stories into new stories. For the reminder that even our most ancient wisdoms still deserve revision. That myth, howsoever refracted, still matters. And so I’m super excited to attend the closing weekend of Caitlin George’s Helen, which looks to be way more fun and smart and interesting than my pretentious write-up here! Come through!

KŌSA: Sankai Juku
The Joyce Theater
October 24th - November 5th, 2023

Butoh is an epically influential movement, aesthetic, style, technique, or maybe none of these things. I am elated to be seeing an evening-length butoh performance. I know I will spend most of it with my jar on the floor.
