Dane Dance Revolution: Ethan Fruist
JACK
March 28th - April 1st 2024

I've been thinking about, and mourning, how gentrification means a quieter, "tamer" New York. Ethan Fuirst reminds us, in his solo play, that dance has a long history of cultural liberty, community building, and charged sexuality that outshines today's sterilized swiping on apps. If you haven't grooved in a bit, this play makes the case you oughta. Motion is lotion, honey.

On and Off-Screen Imaginaries: A Conversation with Tiffany Sia and An-My Lê
Dia Chelsea
Thursday, March 28th 2024

Dia’s “Artists on Artists” lecture series consistently features super current, super smart, super compelling, and often intergenerational art thinking. It is one of my most very favorite ways to learn about new work, and to see artists I already know in new ways (last month’s Charles Atlas on Merce Cunningham, for example). On Thursday, An-My Lê will will be in conversation with Tiffany Sia. Lê’s “Small Wars” is a series of large format photographs documenting US-based, hobbyist, Vietnam War reenactors. Sia explores place, travel, history, and memory in film and installation. I’ve heard Sia speak before and she is brilliant; this will be a great talk. Come through!

I need a big gay night out. And whenever I need a big gay night out, I feel lucky that I am in NY. M. Can Yasar will take us on a a journey via song and story and probably some gorgeous outfits... and the whole time, we will all feel the warm and wonderful power of community. I cannot wait.

Symphony of Rats: Written by Richard Foreman. Directed by Elizabeth LeCompte & Kate Valk
The Performing Garage
March 27th - May 4th 2024

I'm always waiting for the right opportunity to have my first live experience with specific authors or plays. In this case, I'm expecting to have an excellent first time seeing the infamous Richard Foreman's writing live on stage.
