Japanese Tea and Ritual Room—卯月Uzuki (April): Maho Ogawa
JACK
April 19th - April 20th 2024

I had the great pleasure of seeing an earlier version of Maho Ogawa’s “Japanese Tea and Ritual Room” and delighted in its expansive participatory exploration of ceremony, which included haircuts, humming to oneself, and of course tea-making. Presented this weekend at Jack as an installation activated by performance, I’m excited to see where Ogawa is taking this work, and to breathe into its playful humor and its reverent quietude. Come through!

TELL ME WHAT YOUR GOD LOOK LIKE: angel edwards
Judson Memorial Church
Wednesday, April 17th 2024

“tell me what your god look like” is a performance experience that explores “god” via stories, fabulations, and memories.

that's what the post says. the picture was so stunning i actually stopped on it. i didn't get it... were they standing in a pool or a neck high fountain? where is that fountain at Judson..? how did they get the glint of sun off the hat? I was all wrong about it, at first glance, and that's what I liked about it.

Doors & Food 6:30pm & Showtime: 7:30pm
Judson Meeting Room (enter at 243 Thompson St.)

Spirit House with River L. Ramirez: River L. Ramirez, Peter Smith, Larry Owens, Sister Selva
Target Margin Theater
Sunday, April 28th 2024

River always creates a special vibe, a totally unique show and layers upon layers of creativity. I cannot say it better than this tag line - "Allow yourself to be transported into the feeling of our shared humanity with Ramirez’s playful take on spirit theatre; seance’s, dance exorcisms, sermons, group rituals and more!"

Staff Meal: Abe Koogler, Morgan Green
Playwrights Horizons
Closes May 19th, 2024

I don't actually know anything about this show except for the team at the top is exceptional. knowing them, i am sure the rest of the staff meal cast and co. are just as brilliant. my favorite friend-critic texted me to say she "fr loved it a lot" which between us (me and her, not me and you) is a huge deal. I'll be going sometime this month so if anyone wants to venture to midtown with me and then get WINE at the DINER (westside diner) nearby, well it would be my honor.
