Science Park: Noah Mease, Dante Green
The Gym at Judson
August 14th - August 25th 2024

Dante has one of those eyes for nuanced relationships that you just can’t teach. “Long distance lovers…in a spherical house” is bound to mean more than I could possibly imagine in their hands, and with a stellar cast and creative team I can’t wait to see this show.

Hero Magnus at The Delancey
The Delancey
Thursday, September 5th 2024

I'm not sure if Hero Magnus is a stage name, or if her parents just blessed her with a god-like title. Either way, she's got the talents to back it up: a rising musical artist, Hero's tunes cut to the ecstasy, confusion, and glamorous grit of being young and stupid in a city. She rhymed "better" with "subletter" — it's not Sondheim, but it's not meant to be. All I want is more propulsive songs in which subletters play a role. Secondary characters steal the show! Thankfully Hero is their vehicle, and a dazzling one at that.

thingNY was supposed to perform in January, as part of The Exponential Festival. But, they had to postpone... which can often lead to new kinds of beauty and magic. Now, they are back in The Brick Theater with two experimental operas that will reach into your guts and excavate your souls. PLUS alejandro and Paul have curated a gallery show to go with the operas! PLUS they have custom toilet paper for the show. PLUS they have been rehearsing in Brick Aux this week and it is wonderful to hear and be around. Their wild talent is only matched by their deep kindness. If you need to experience full goodness right now, thingNY is serving.

A Griever’s Dreams: Mangda Sengvanhpheng
Creative Time HQ
Wednesday, August 14th 2024

I was cursed and blessed to be raised without a faith tradition. And years ago I stopped using the good drugs, worried I’d forever overstretch some vital brain-parts. So today when I seek the deep mysteries, it is through performance, poem, and song. Next week, I feel honored and excited to attended artist and death doula Mangda Sengvanhpheng’s “A Griever’s Dreams”, and explore the veiled shadows through her meditation installation altar performance ritual. Come through!

watching you watching me watching you: Leah Plante-Wiener & Eulàlia Comas
The Tank
Thursday, August 15th 2024

watching you watching me watching you is presented alongside POLYLITH by Shiloh Blue and Theo Haegele

This dynamic duo is together again and I could not be happier. They are inventive, serious artists who also have a really great time. As an audience member, that makes me want to be there for whatever they create. I do not know what the show will be. I do not know what "it is about". I do not have any expectations other than that I will enjoy my time.

Beach Sessions Dance Series: Faye Driscoll
On the sand at Beach 106 St (Rockaway Beach)
Saturday, August 17th 2024

Moooooove over EINSTEIN on the beach, it's time for DRISCOLL on the beach. Staff Picks audience favorite Lena Engelstein is featured in this dance performance on a literal beach (the scale! how spectacular), which I'm sure will have gorgeous arrangements of bodies in a beautiful environment.
