Give Me Carmelita Tropicana! : Alina Troyano, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Carmelita Tropicana
SoHo Rep
October 24th - December 15th 2024

It's Soho Rep.'s final show in its downtown home. Let its sendoff be grand and deluxe, and with a show led by and about Carmelita Tropicana contending with the definition of downtown theater, it surely will be. Goodbye to a long history of stirring, important work at a storied institution, and hello to a new (continued?) era in which we fight like hell to keep this work alive.

Raven Chacon (Weekly Resident) : Raven Chacon with Sky Hopinka, Lea Bertucci, Laura Ortman, Che Chen and more
The Stone at The New School Glass Box Theatre
November 6th-9th 2024

For nearly 20 years, John Zorn has been curating, presenting, and championing super vital experimental music at the Stone. About 10 years ago they moved to a “Weekly Residency” model where a single artist is invited to perform, in whatever configuration they desire, for 4-5 straight days. This week’s resident is the wildly brilliant noisy smart patient conceptual artist activist composer Raven Chacon. I’ve been deeply moved by his “Silent Choir” a piece created from field recordings he made at Standing Rock; by his graphic scores and accompanying films and performances “For Zitkála Šá”; and was floored by a concert last year at e-flux where Chacon, through physical tape manipulation, evoked thunderous spirits and soft storms. His residency, each night with a different trio, is stacked with rad guests: Sky Hopinka, Lea Bertucci, Laura Ortman, Che Chen. Come through!

Note - $20 at the door/Cash Only

TISSUE : Sarah Graalman
Under St. Marks
Saturday, November 16th 2024

Many people know Sarah as an incredible make-up artist and that totally makes sense. She was the head of the make-up department for A Different Man and High Maintenance. She did the hot eyeliner in Bodies Bodies Bodies. She is cool. Yes yes yes. And she is also a great writer and storyteller. She does not perform live often enough, so do not miss your chance.

Singing Chamber - Community Sound Installation : Bent Duo
190th Street A Subway Station at Fort Washington Avenue
Satruday, November 9th from 1-3pm 2024

Listen. I am a fan of Bent Duo. They are endlessly inventive and their collaboration is like none other. They are also doing a performance on the November 16th in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Both will be unique, special, beautiful... If you do not know them, check out their site. Their music, zines, practices and interests are all fascinating and new.
