JACK
February 9th - February 24th 2024

As there is a continued growth in boringass realist art that hyperfocuses on a bland white-centric perspective on Americana in the greater world of culture, I am forever heartened to just face the day when I see the amazing expressionistic art created to counter that Western perspective and illuminate new ways of experiencing life.

THIS IS THE SERIES WE NEED. I cannot go this Friday but I will be at the next one and YOU should go to this one. Why? It will be like nothing else going on right now. Why? This fucking line-up is great. Why? So that the series can be like - oh yes we need to exist and people agree with us and so let's keep going! Why? It is only $5. Why? They have a good show poster.

SAPPH-O-RAMA: Programmed by Andrea Torres and Emily Greenberg
Film Forum
February 2nd - February 13th 2024

I don’t know how your winter is going, but for me, a ten day cinematic celebration of queer love, and the possibility of joy and softness and laughter, is just what I need. From Feb 2-13, Film Forum screens selections from Lesbian film history, including groundbreaking work by icons Chantal Akerman, Yvonne Rainer, and Dorothy Arzner. I’m excited for the outrageous sendup of conversion therapy “But I'm a Cheerleader,” and the plaintive sweetness of “Desert Hearts.” And in general just to be reminded of the bravery of our elders, and the myriad ways we can create spaces for love.
