Short, supernatural and bizarre? You’re speaking my love language! I love being surprised when I go to check out live performance. Perhaps that’s why those three descriptors resonate with me - they hold the promise or hope of surprise. And maybe I’ll even get a little creeped out?! A them can dream, can’t they?

Noguchi Museum

I deeply loved the Toshiko Takaezu show at the Noguchi Museum. I found her seemingly serene ceramic work to hold deeper, darker mysteries. Her textiles feel both severe and soft. Her closed forms pointedly deny domesticity. And I was really taken with her explorations of how sound, surprise, and play can be a conduit for peacefulness. I also love soba noodles. So, it will be such a delight to spend a Saturday morning learning about buckwheat and soba-making from Uzuki’s chef Shuichi Kotani, in the Takaezu galleries. Sculpture and snacks in one of my favorite spaces in the city! Come through!
