Untitled Seagull Project: Carolina Đỗ & Annie Jin Wang
Soho Rep
September 29th - September 30th 2023

My god I am SOOOOOOOOOOO excited for this!! I am such a huge fan of Annie! I am a fan of Chekhov! And I'm so excited to see how they're going to turn The Seagull inside out. Tickets for this event are free & I'm hoping that by the time this is posted there are still some left. But if not, don't let that stop you-- all of the other Soho Rep Writer/Director shows are worth checking out.

Staffer: Hillary Gao

Penguin in Your Ear: Eliza Bent and Jess Barbagallo
The Brick Theater
September 13th - September 17th 2023

An artist experimenting in a new form is terrifying and exciting. When taking such a leap, do it with a friend! Eliza Bent doing stand up with the directorial guidance of Jess Barbagallo is is the easiest "yes I am there for that" I have ever uttered.

Staffer: Theresa Buchheister

Charade: Sharleen Chidiac
The Hancock NYC
September 2nd - September 3rd 2023

In my mind, this show will be like Clue (the movie). It's in a mansion in Bed-Stuy. It's a free RSVP. The poster has a naked woman's back with a bullseye on it. In the promo, the dancers seem to be desperate, lusting, and beautiful. Perhaps, I will go as the character I always played as (Colonel Mustard) and perhaps I won't come back.

A Fun Play About How Scary Climate Change Is: Sabina Sethi Unni
everywhere! the beach!
September 15th at the Gowanus Dredgers Boathouse
September 16th at Edgemere Farm
September 22nd at Hunts Point Riverside Park
September 23rd at La Plaza Cultural

Sabina is a powerhouse theater artist who makes socially engaged performance and works at the intersection of theater, urban planning, and climate activism which is like the coolest intersection there is in my opinion. Yes, I am scared about the future and I do feel climate despair! And I definitely want to watch Sabina play a cool Japanese synth from 1987.

Staffer: Laia Comas

Looming Dogs: David Perez, Jill Pangallo, William Burke
The Brick Theater
September 14th - September 17th 2023

I had the great pleasure of befriending David Perez when we were fresh-faced babies in the mid-aughts Chicago storefront scene. Then he was making and championing new plays. It was brilliant stuff, some of the most vital, moving work of that era. I don’t know what to expect from his new solo show, except that it will be fantastic. Come through!

Staffer: Joshua Dumas

9 Kinds of Silence: Abhishek Majumdar
PlayCo
September 7th - September 30th 2023

I believe in the undying support of an organization for the sake of love for an organization, and PlayCo holds my heart. ("Lunch Bunch" fans, unite!) "9 Kinds of Silence" explores the power of quiet sound during wartime, and as someone trying to exist in more silence, I'm intrigued.

Staffer: Billy McEntee

Pooping it Out: Maria Bamford
Brooklyn Comedy Collective Pig Pen
September 5th - September 7th 2023

Normally I don't recommend the general public attend work-in-progress events...but hanging at 10 am with the genius Maria Bamford figuring out new material sounds like a GAS!

Staffer: Travis Amiel

E X U L T: Reed Rushes, Kate Williams
Entrance
Saturday, September 2nd 2023

It looks like drag, cabaret, dance, performance art...it looks sexy and strange. It looks fun freaky and dramatic. I think we'll be screaming while we watch. That kind of show.
