Push Party: Nia Akilah Robinson
TheaterLab
June 7th - June 23rd 2024

The Hearth has been producing quality new works by women for a few years now, and I always try and make it to one of their shows. From "Athena" to "Events," I've always loved the sometimes-bonkers and always-specific worlds of their shows. Excited for this next one!

32 Sounds: Sam Green, JD Samson
Lincoln Center (Alice Tully Hall)
Thursday, June 13th 2024

One of my very favorite cinema moments of 2023 was seeing Sam Green’s “32 Sounds” at Film Forum mixed in binaural audio with individual headsets for every viewer. It was a gorgeous and uncanny experience to share a packed theatre while having a singular and intimate sonic encounter. The film is a curious, openhearted, passionate, and wildly moving exploration of sound itself, and in particular how sound can best tell certain stories. I wept. I loved it. Lincoln Center is presenting the film with live accompaniment by the brilliant JD Samson (who scored the film) and live narration by Green. And it’s pay-what-you-can! Come through!

Bodhisattva Beer Run: Glenn Potter-Takata & evan ray suzuki
PAGEANT
June 20th - June 21st 2024

When I hear of contemporary butoh from NY artists, I'm there. But when the show is about the "contradictory nature of a Buddhist worldview and beer-fueled acts of masculinity". Well...there's the center of a venn diagram I'm always after.

Let's Tidy Up: Josh Thomas
SoHo Playhouse
June 13th - June 23rd 2024

"Please Like Me" is one of my favorite TV shows, and if you haven't seen, give it a watch. Think of it as an Aussie, gayer "Girls." All to say, I'd see Josh Thomas, in his squeaky voice, read the phone book. Now, I'm seeing him live.
