We Live in Cairo : The Lazours
New York Theatre Workshop
October 9th - November 24th 2024

Am I allowed to highlight big shows on here? As in, Off-Broadway shows that run > than a week? Well, here I am: epic story, intimate cast. Follow six Egyptian activists amid the Arab Spring — there's youthful vim, tantalizing music, and the growing pains of growing up, with friends and lovers, during dictatorship.

When was the last time you saw MIME, bitch? Exactly. From the LA-based mime powerhouse & clown instructor extraordinaire comes a rare sticky treat for us eastcoasters. Here Comes Honeybuns! - the first show brought to the city by physical performance training haven & best-kept-secret-summer retreat for your favorite full-time city artists, Celebration Barn Theater. Honeybuns! is a rare opportunity to experience one of the most notable mimes innovating the form today in peak raunch & ribaldry - and for one night only! Though if you’re thirsty for more, weep not, as HB zemself is leading a clown workshop during their visit here, also at BAH. Dare not deprive them of a proper NY welcome 💞

Saturday October 12th 2024

Eternal Buchheister Staff Pick will be any edition of SalOn!. This is the first one ever that I will not be attending, which is wild. After ten years! And, of course, the line-up is incredible. SalOn! is a place to try out something odd or new or outside of your usual zone. It is a place to hang out and meet the most fascinating people in NY. It is never not surprising, even to the people who know the most about what is supposed to happen. Come out and support the new team, Jillian Jetton and Matthew Antoci and ALSO come to the opening of the incredibly delgihtful Helen Oliver Adelson and Alex Wolkowicz gallery show. It will be a magical night, I swear. It is also my birthday, so have bourbon and enjoy the people in the room with you.

A.R.T.-NY
Sunday, October 6th 2024

Good Apples presents this Oct 6 Rootstock reading series. What's a rootstock? Well, dear reader, it's “a stem to which part of another plant is joined so that both parts can grow together.” Okay, a hard YES to ecological terms that can be applied more universally. The more you know — and, the more you know these rising writers with their 90-minute new plays, the happier you'll be. Brought to you by the company that did the much-raved-about "cunnicularii" earlier this year!

My new Staff vibe is totally "what would I be going to if I was in NY", which is super real and like sort of an incredible ache. I hope that folx in NY can be like - "Oh my gosh, I should really go to this incredible thing that is only happening here and now." Anyway, this feels pretty special, unique and like it is definitely worth figuring out how to sneak in or usher or something. Plus, Simon Hanes, dudes. SIMON HANES.

A Show to Read Out Loud with Friends : Jennifer Mills
Caveat
Saturday, October 5th 2024

The hilarious and brilliant Jennifer Mills, who did the great gallery show last year at Brick Aux where she papered the walls with 20 years of her Jennifer Mills News, a mundane news report that she started doing every week while she was in high school, is doing a new thing at Caveat! I got to see her last week in Kansas City, as she works on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and got me tickets! Total blast! And, of course, if I was in NY, I would 100% be at Caveat this Saturday.
