Vouyage of Jeanette : Svetlana Romanova
e-flux Screening Room
Thursday, October 10th 2024

Sadly, I can’t make it, but I highly recommend Svetlana Romanova’s essay film “Voyage of Jeanette” showing this Thursday at e-flux. The film illuminates and explores northern Siberian Indigenous communities in the Yakutian Arctic, peoples who have lived for generations at the edges of the world. The piece explores collective memory and storytelling backdropped by a strange and gorgeous landscape. A conversation with Romanova follows the screening. Come through!

COCKTOBER : Meaghan Robichaud, Julia VanderVeen, Lisa Fagan, Gabriella Gonzalez, Hannah Mitchell, Matthew Antoci, Ring Yang, Steph Marc
Brooklyn Art Haus
Sunday, October 13th 2024

"Nowadays" from CHICAGO, weather-based clown, and an ejaculating chicken are just a few of the acts I've been gagged at during previous COCKTOBERs. Meaghan and Julia's recurring spooky risqué variety spectacular is not one to miss - **especially** the October iteration!! Expect them to pull out all the stops for this all-star lineup, featuring yours truly. It's also a fundraiser for me and Meaghan's show in Exponential so you'll get some bonus good karma points for coming ;)

You Must Wear a Hat : The Interstitial, C. Meaker, Erica Wray, Morgan Grambo, Courtney Gaston, Joshua Dumas, Chelsea June, Lindsay Warnick, Genevieve Simon, Sushma Saha, Amy BG Bruhns
Theaterlab
October 10th-12th 2024

I like hats, first and foremost. Second, I really love a lot the artists working on this show that I KNOW know (eeeee Erica Wray, Joshua Dumas, Morgan Grambo, Genevieve Simon!!!). Third, I am living sooooo vicariously through my friends in NY right now and I really want people to go so that we can zoom or facetime or text or all of it later. Lastly, it's a play about connecting and that feels nice.

OPEN AiR | Endless Holes : Rebecca Patek, Alex Rodabaugh, and Anh Vo
CPR - Center for Performance Research
October 22nd - October 23rd 2024

It is with unbridled excitement that I jump to the end of the month. Process is an elusive, secretive thing that I'm eternally curious about, so seeing projects presented "in progress" is one of my great pleasures. Yes, please give me the thing with a torn-up blueprint and cut-up scraps on the side. Knowing these artist's work, this lineup is a particular treat. And tix are pay what you can!

A dance, sound, and language performance about guilt, failure, and shame? I'm in!

Lectures & Libations: Queer History Edition : The Anthropologists
Guild Hall
Thursday, October 10th 2024
21+

I love The Anthropologists! And they're back with their first Lectures and Libations series post-pandemic prime! It's giving TED Talks meets Drunk History meets Theatre Club. And queer history! What I like about this event is that there's no intellectual gatekeeping, so anyone (including anyone who's not a professor or historian or performer) can share!

Prelude 2024 : Too Many To Name
The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center
October 16th-October 19th 2024

Holy curation, this is a lineup made in heaven. Prelude 2024 is for for anyone who likes experimental performance/dance/music that's rooted in research over spectacle. I'm extra excited for: Skeleton Architecture, Going Beige by Leslie Cuyjet + Karen Kandel, and my forever fav Francesca D'Uva. My biggest possible endorsement of this beautiful collection of artists: I'll be going to midtown, maybe even more than once, to see them perform.
